Hi everyone! How was your long weekend? Did you create any cards, tags, or layouts? Or did the sunshine and BBQ call your name? It was a beautiful weekend here in Utah! The mountains are green, the sky was a gorgeous blue, and there was even a light breeze. I love how nature changes from winter to spring. Such a lovely transition.

Speaking of transitioning, how many times have you fallen in love with a design and wished it was more manly? It happens to us all! In the June 2014 issue, we asked a few designers to tackle this problem and show us how their approach to a masculine makeover.

To start with, Betsy Veldman made this gorgeously feminine Wishing You a Happy Birthday card. The flowers! The slightly bright pastel colors! The banner! Okay, I’m done with the exclamation points, but wow, this card makes me sigh each time I see it.

Kim Kesti took the design of the card, swapped out the feminine accents for triangles and squares and changed the pretty color palette to darker shades of the colors used in Betsy’s card. Notice that Kim’s Right Now Birthday card still has the main sentiment in the middle of the card and accents on each corner. She also included the smaller sentiments above and below the word Happy. I would totally send this to one of my brothers!

Amazing how easy it is to see the possibilities when someone else does it, right? And this is only one example. The June 2014 issue has two more masculine makeover projects to give you additional ideas for translating Betsy’s feminine card.

I recommend you pull out your favorite cards and experiment with creating a new card for a different recipient just by switching colors, accents, and papers while keeping the basic design.

Have fun creating and feel free to share your masculine makeovers in a comment below!
